91. Jacques Callot (French, 1592-1635)

Grouping of miscellaneous engravings by French printmaker Jacques Callot includes two city scenes, two battle scenes and five religious scenes with text in French and Latin. Most engravings signed Callot. Range in size from 9" x 3-1/2" to 3" x 4-1/2".

The French 17th Century artist Jacques Callot is one of the first 17th Century artists to work exclusively as a printmaker and attain fame. His oeuvre encompasses about 1400 prints and over 2000 drawings produced over less than three decades. His career is generally divided into his Italian period (1608-1621) and his French period (1621-1635).
