L'Instruction du Roy, en l'Exercice de Monter a Cheval
Text in French and Dutch, Paris, May 12th, 1625. Leather bound with six raised bands on sides, apprx 15-3/4" x 11" x 1-1/4". Includes title page, dedication page, an elaborate engraving of Roger de Bellegarde by de Passe, table of plates, an engraving of Pluvinel by Simon Passaeus, an engraving of du Roy by de Passe and the publishing page with the permission of the king for reproduction and 47 double plates of copper engravings with wood-cut frames/borders by Chrispijn de Passe II, giving a complete pictorial course on horse-riding, including fighting on horse-back. From the estate of a Countess Michaela Almeida of Austria, from Moondsee, Austria. Antoine de Pluvinel (1555-1620) was a master horseman and taught the royals of Europe. He was born in the town of Crest in 1555. At the age of 10, he was taken to Italy to study horsemanship under Pignatelli until 1571 or 1572, when he was taken in by M. de Sourdis, the premier ecuyer of King Charles IX. 8,000/10,000 Sold $6,037.50 back to catalog |
