313. Two Vintage Maté Gourds & Bombilla Tea Straws, Late 19th Century


Pair of Mate gourds with bombilla straws. The first set is small black gourd with metal overlay at base and rim. Verso is stamped "Alpaca" and "Noustria Argentina", straw appears to be matching and also marked. Cup apprx 3-1/2", straw apprx 6"L. The second gourd is in a presentation case. The "cup" is designed with metal overlay on a patterned body. The top and bottom of gourd are capped with metal, possibly copper, one with intials "T.A.C.". The opening is covered in possibly pewter with a brass colored foliate pattern of bright cut metal. The straw has copper mouthpiece on a sterling body which is marked "800". It has an applied family crest on the straw and hand chased designs. Gourd apprx 3-1/2" D, straw apprx 8-1/2" L.

Coconut Goblet (American, 1792)

This goblet is an intricately carved coconut on a newer wooden base. The carvings include an anchor, a sun shaped medallion, a bear-like animal, a geometric design in a circle, two hearts intertwined with the year 1792 carved in them and a metal rim (metal not tested). Measures apprx 5-1/4" H x 3-1/4" diameter at top.

This coconut, circa 18th century, has been intricately carved with flowers and birds throughout. Standing on a base, also with detailed carvings on four feet. Measures apprx 6" H on base, 5" H alone and apprx 2" diameter at opening.

This is an entire coconut that has been pieced and carved with incredible detail, circa 18th century. The bottom of the coconut is the image of a face, possibly that of a fish. The mouth and eyes have been pierced and the eyes are decorated with mother-of-pearl borders and brown pupils. Measures apprx 5" x 3".

Carved Coconut Drinking Goblet

317. Carved Coconut Drinking Goblet


This coconut reads "Done on Board the Prison Ship, Barbados, December the 19th 1812" on the verso. Around the side are carvings of an American eagle with a shield, an urn with "B Rea" written on it and a pile of cannon balls with various weapons on either side. It stands on three lovely metal feet that have been screwed into a thin metal rim. Metal feet and rim have not been tested and it is possible that feet and rim were added some time after completion. It measures apprx 4-1/2" H and 4" diameter at opening.

This mesh handbag features a pattern design of deep blue and gold flowers against a cornflower blue background. Gold painted metal frame is enhanced with floral and oval designs, ball clasp and brass chain. Brass linked fringe hang apprx 1" from bottom of bag, Mandalian Mfg Co. printed in interior, apprx 7". Does not have lining. Hand bag dated c. 1920. Second vintage handbag has been covered with royal blue beads. Beaded exotic bird decorate each side of the handbag. Royal blue fringe lines the bottom edge of purse. Silver frame has ornate scroll and fan design and is accented with blue glass beads and chain link handle. Unmarked, this piece measures apprx 11" H x 7" W.
