This leaf from the Qur'ran, the sacred Islamic Qur'anic text of the prophet Mohammad, is written in bold Kufic in brown ink with headings and vowel pointing in red on cream-colored vellum. It also has some numbers penciled in the upper margin. Adheared to white backing and matted. Leaf measures apprx 7" x 9". Paper size is apprx 11" x 14". The Qur'an is a compilation of writings by Mohammed and is used as the Muslim bible.

Sanguine chalk study of a seated male nude with white highlights on chain lined and watermarked paper. Verso has illegible signature in chalk and evidence of an inventory number in ink at upper right corner. Overmat of blue wove paper consistent with collectors albums. The image size measures apprx 16" x 10-1/2" and overall paper size is 20-1/4" x 14". Watermark is an anchor with a star with the initials "P.M." below.

From "Nürnbergische Hesperides ...", a pair of copper plate engravings by Paul Decker (Nuremberg 1677-1713), published by J.Ch. Volckamer, Nuremberg 1710. The prints show views in or around Nuremberg and the above depictions are of fruit or flowers. The lot includes page 172 "Pompelmos es Occident" with a view of "Cortuso sotto malcesene" and also page 236, unidentified flowers with "die Baumwollen". Image apprx 12-6/8" x 8". Overall with frame apprx 20" x 15".

From the estate of Countess Michaela Almeida of Moondsee, Austria. "The Colossi History of The World", four individual engravings with original hand coloring on heavy chain lined paper with no visible watermarks. First plate depicts Pontificum Romanorum, the Pope standing in full robes with his hand raised in blessing, his vestment covered with text giving a list of all the Popes from the 1st-17th century with their dates, character and manner of death. To the left is a vignette of St. Peter’s Church with Romulus and Remus in the foreground, on the right representations of ecclesiastical vestments and articles. Key to symbols top right. Apprx 23" x 19-3/4" plate size, 24-3/4" x 21" paper size. The second plate, Statua Regnum Europaeorum, details the warrior king with back robes, breastplate, skirt. Legs are covered with text giving lists of the kings of the various countries of Europe from 1st-17th centuries with similar information. To the left are twelve large armorials, to the right, regal and martial trophies. Apprx 23-1/4" x 19-1/2" plate size, 28" x 23" paper size. The third plate depicts Icon Synoptica Sac. Rom. Imp., the figure of an “Elector” in full robes covered with text giving a list of all the rulers of the Holy Roman Empire, princes, electors and dukes. On the left, there is a pillar with the heraldic coasts of arms and on the right, a crown and chair of state, et al. Apprx 23-1/4" x 19-1/2" plate size, 27" x 22-3/4" paper size. The fourth plate is of Colossus Monarchic Statua Daniellis, a martial “Colossus” with sword and sceptre. On his helmet, breastplate, skirt and legs are tabulated the Great Empires of History, Assyrian, Persian, Greek and Roman, including the Oriental Kingdoms and the Western Empires. The effigy is based on Daniel’s interpretation of the dream of Nebuchadnezzar. Apprx 23" x 19-1/2" plate size, 28" x 23-1/4" paper size.

A beautiful sanguine drawing in the style of Jean-Baptiste Greuze. Red chalk drawing of a young peasant girl wearing a bonnet. Cream colored laid paper has toning and margins are affixed to backing board, however not laid throughout majority of drawing. The image size measures apprx 14-1/2" x 11" and overall paper size is 16-1/2" x 12-1/2".

"Joints of the Thigh, Leg & Ankle", double-sided drawing in black chalk (recto) and brown ink (verso). Measures appx 7-1/2" x 6-1/4" closed, 12-1/4" W open. Page numbered 81. The interior has two sketches, one in graphite, the other in brown ink. Chained lined and water-marked paper. Provenance: This sketch is from one of his sketch books, dated 1813. The sketchbook was purchased from Kenneth Rendell c.1977. Our client still has the sketch book. It is not for certain that the script is by Landseer, however the drawings are guaranteed to be by his hand.

"The Fox Hunt", a set of four soft ground etching, engraved by Wright and published by Harris; four in 1795 two in 1795, republished in 1801, however margins are trimmed. Hand colour. Titles include; "Full Cry", "The Fox in Sight", "The Fox at Bay" and "The Return". All in similar French mats and like frames. Gallery tag on verso from Vixsebose Art Galleries, Cleveland, Ohio. Image size apprx 11" x 15", overall with frame apprx 19-1/2" x 23".
