11. "Madame de Lamballe" Miniature Portrait, French, c. 19th Century
Signed "Jene" in mid-right margin. Madame de Lamballe was a confidant of Marie Antoinette and she shared her imprisonment in the Temple. In August she was transferred to La Force, and having refused to take the oath against the monarchy, she was delivered over to the fury of the populace on September 3rd, after which her head was placed on a pike and carried before the windows of the queen. Overall apprx 5-1/4" x 4-1/4".

Framed in an ornate gold and brass frame of ribbons and bows. Thick magnifying over a very well painted portrait of a beauty pouring wine into a cup. A falcon or eagle is at lower right. Initialed lower left "EN". Overall apprx 2-3/4" x 2-3/4".

"Woodland Sunset". Oil on canvas landscape was painted with a heavy impasto technique and heavy glaze. It is signed and dated 1918 on the lower left. The painting is framed in an ornately carved painted and gilt frame and was under glass. This piece measures apprx 8-1/4" x 11-1/4" image size and overall size is 16" x 19".
