Impressive Rose Medallion planter has a scrolling wooden base. White glaze porcelain has been hand-painted with pink and light green and gold floral designs. Four windows depict scenes from court life. One window shows two entertainers dancing for a pair of figures, with a scribe in the background. Another window shows the same entertainers performing for a royal couple. Third and fourth windows show an oriental vase filled with blossoming flowers and surrounded by birds and butterflies. Interior of this planter is painted with exotic goldfish and plant life. Planter measures apprx 30" H x 20" W. Base measures apprx 11" H x 14" W.
Rose Medallion was made in China during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. It is a distinctive design with four or more panels of decoration around a central medallion that includes a bird or a peony. The panels show birds and people. The background is a design of tree peonies and leaves. Pieces are colored in greens, pinks, and other colors. It is similar to Rose Canton and Rose Mandarin.
