279. A Ladies Locket & Chain, c. 1805-1806

Bright-cut detail on sterling with gold wash links and locket. The rectangular links are finished with small balls on each corner. There are two clasps, one at the bottom of the chain and one at the top of the locket. The locket is oval in shape and has lovely bright-cut detail on the face. On the interior of the locket are stamps of lion passant and an "h" in a cartouche. On verso of the locket are additional stamps including an anchor, head and the maker's mark of Wm C. There is a lion stamped on the shank as well. These marks indicate that this piece is Birmingham plate, c. 1805-1805. Measures apprx 10" L and locket is apprx 2-1/2" x 1-1/2", apprx 2.2 Troy oz.
