280. Sterling Necklace With Agate Locket, English, c. 1876-1877

A sterling chain link necklace with small round charms attached on the outside. Charms are beautifully decorated in the image of a flower. Clasp is located between the chain and the locket. The locket has a carved and detailed boarder around a beautiful agagte. On the interior of the face of the locket are stamps including a lion passant, letter "b". On the interior of the back of the locket is a very well polished queen's profile mark. On verso is another letter "b", an anchor, a lion passant and the maker's mark "M.J.G". These marks indicate that this piece dates to be English, c. 1876-1877. Inside the locket is an old piece of paper reading "Miss Wyburn. Powderham". Measures apprx 10-1/2" long and locket is apprx 2-1/2" x 1-3/8".
