309. A European Enameled Compact, Late 19th Century

European bright cut sterling silver compact with hinged lid has blue enamel which has the appearance of marble in eight sections. The carved inserted center depicts a figure surrounded by a deer and a boar within scrolling vines. Probably celluloid, however not tested, it has a brown wash to bring out carved/molded details. This area has a rounded bay leave border in high relief. Bright cut sterling silver compact had been gold washed on exterior. Internal gold wash still very bright. Interior of compact has a beveled mirror and gold wash is still nice and bright, stamped "800". Measures apprx 2-3/4" x 3-1/4".
