15. Hudson Mindell Kitchell (American, 1862-1944)

"Woodland Sunset". Oil on canvas landscape was painted with a heavy impasto technique and heavy glaze. It is signed and dated 1918 on the lower left. The painting is framed in an ornately carved painted and gilt frame and was under glass. This piece measures apprx 8-1/4" x 11-1/4" image size and overall size is 16" x 19".

Best known as a landscape painter, Hudson Mindell Kitchell painted many luminous, evening landscapes similar in style to those of Ralph Blakelock. He worked in various locales, and lived in New York City where he exhibited with the Society of Independent Artists during the 1920's. This painting can be considered typical of Kitchell's work.
