| 171. Andy Warhol (American, 1928-1987)
Andy Warhol hand colored lithograph is entitled "Sam" and features an image of a pink cat with yellow eyes. This image is unframed and signed "Andy Warhol" in the upper right. Measures apprx 11" x 8-1/2". This lot includes a copy of a notarized provenance indicating that Warhol gave this to John Halverson, who later sold it to Sean O'Kelly. Andy Warhol began as a commercial illustrator. His first exhibit in an art gallery was when the Ferus Gallery in Los Angeles showed his 32 Campbell's Soup Cans, 1961-62. From then on, most of Warhol's best work was done over a span of about six years, through 1968, when he was shot. His style flowed from one central insight: that in a culture glutted with information, where most people experience most things at second or third hand through TV and print, through images that become banal and disassociated by repeated again and again and again, there is role for affect-less art. 600/1,200 Sold $833.75 back to catalog |
