133. William Gropper (American, 1897-1977)

A lithograph of a courtroom scene with a lawyer pleading his case to a judge while his client sits with his shoulders hunched. This image is matted and framed under plexiglass and is signed in two places, on the lower left corner, as part of the plate and on the lower right corner, under the plate in pencil. Plate size is apprx 14" x 18" and overall size is apprx 22-1/4" x 25-1/2". Gropper was a student of Robert Henri and George Bellows and did fine art painting until the early 1920s. Gropper is most famous for his politically charged images and rendering of political figures, one being "The Youngstown Strike".
