| 661. A Rare Issue of German Time Magazine, c. 1944
"September, 11th, 1944", Time magazine, German edition, printed by Henry Luce, publisher of Time. Printed in black and red ink. The cover features Flugzeugbauer Grumman. Apprx 10-3/4" x 8-1/4". Provenance: Rose Mary Godsey, employee of Time, staffed for the German edition. In September of 1944 before the end of WWII, Mr. Luce decided to publish Time in German, eventually to be published in Germany after the allied victory. Several copies were printed in New York. When the military censors informed Mr. Luce that each edition would have to be submitted to Washington for approval before distribution, the idea was abandoned. There are few printed copies of this first time example for German publication. 250/500 Sold $69.00 back to catalog |
