622. A Lovely Hand Stitched Velvet Ceremonial Robe and Jacket

This Middle Eastern robe is predominantly burgandy velvet with vertical stripes including a central thick black stripe and thin green, red and orange stripes. Some of the burgandy stripes are patterned. It is embellished with numerous hand stitched decorations. Orange and burgandy fabric run down the long sleeves with gold, red, fuscia, green, purple, blue and gold embellishments and hand stitching. The sides of the robe are similarly decorated with hand stitched decorations. The robe has a split neck with two braided string ties with tassels to close it. It is fully lined. The jacket is also burgandy velvet with short sleeves and is fully lined with a flannel type fabric which is red with green stripes, with vines of pomegranates running along the green stripes. The front of the jacket is predominantly red with gold green and blue accents. The sleeves and the back of the jacket have similar decorations and red stitching runs from front to back, crossing at the shoulder. The effect of the red hand stitching on the burgandy velvet is dramatic. The robe is apprx 17" shoulder to shoulder and apprx 49" from collar to hem. The jacket is apprx 16" shoulder to shoulder and apprx 20" from collar to hem.
