12. Attributed to Michael Sweerts (Flemish, 1618-1664)
Possible "Self Portrait" wearing a red turban, oil on paper, laid on old hard wood panel which has then been backed with newer support panel, unsigned. Measures apprx 19-3/4" H x 15-3/4" W. Provenance: Purchased from a private estate in Florida, c. 1993 and added to a private Ohio collection for the past 10 years.

13. Continental, 18th Century
"The Martyrdom of St. Sebastian". Oil on copper plate, unsigned, c. 18th Century. St. Sebastian's muscular physique is tied to a tree, pierced with one arrow. He is shown in a flowing blue cloth and with facial hair. An angel presents the saint with a laurel at upper left. Detailed village in background with trees and hills. Foreground painted with grasses and plants. Copper measures apprx 11-2/8" x 8-3/8".

Formal portrait of an unknown sitter. Oil on wood board, unsigned. This gentleman has light green eyes and and red hair, and a dimple in the center of his strong chin. Distinctive and distinguished, the young man has somewhat of a dashing demeanor with his high collar and frock coat. Board apprx 30-1/8" x 23". In period gilt frame, overall apprx 37-1/2" x 31".

16. George Inness (American, 1825-1894)
"Soldiers Return". Oil on canvas, laid on board, signed lower right "G. Inness 1875". Verso has restoration tag from the Cleveland Museum of Art # TR 16900/15. Canvas depicts a landscape with a man on a path with soldier's knapsack, approaching an ox cart in the distance. To the left is a small farm house against the trees with smoke rising from the chimney. Image measures apprx 9-1/4" x 13-1/2", with elaborate gilt frame apprx 15-1/2" x 19-1/2". Listed in part II of "The Works of George Inness" by Leroy Ireland, page 433. Previously auctioned at Mathews Auction Gallery, N.Y.C., March 2-3, 1876, catalogue #119. Last auctioned in Cleveland, OH, 1989, page 24, lot #85A, catalogue # unknown.

17. Valentine Cameron Prinsep, R.A. (British, 1838-1904)
"Sir Francis Grant". Oil on artist's board, initialed lower right. Board apprx 11" x 8-1/2", overall with original gilt frame apprx 16" x 13-1/2". Prinsep was a member of the Royal Academy and was awarded the bronze medal at the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1889. His work is found in many private collections and public institutions such as the National Portrait Gallery; Tate Gallery. He was a painter of genre works, historical subjects and portraits.
The sitter for this portrait, Sir Francis Grant (English b. 1810), was a well known portraitist and also a member of the Royal Academy as well as president. His work can be found in many institutions.

18. Francesco Coleman (Italian, 1851-1918)
"Dieu et mon Droit " (God and my right), the motto of England. Probably a portrait of Queen Anne Boleyn, second wife of King Henry VIII. Oil on canvas, signed lower right. A tour de force historical painting with numerous charmingly painted areas of interest; "They came for Anne on the morning of May 19th, 1536 to take her to the Tower Green, where she was to be afforded the dignity of a private execution. She wore a red petticoat under a loose, dark grey gown of damask trimmed in fur. Over that she was a mantle of ermine. Her long, dark hair was bound up under a simple white linen coif over which she wore her usual headdress" (Tudorhistory.org) Framed in a Barbizon pattern frame finished in metal leaf (probably restored), canvas size apprx 25" x 36".

19. Carl Spielter (German, 1851-1921)
"The Letter". Oil on canvas, signed and dated 1913 along with city name, "Bremen", at lower right. From a series of paintings by the artist documenting this couple's correspondence with family. On the dining table are typical items such a stein, pastry and utensils. Tiny flies dot the table cloth. The original "letter" held in her hands has been cut out and replaced with another. Therefore there is inpainting of her hands and perimeter of cut. Apprx 39" x 49", with frame apprx 43-1/2" x 53-1/2".

"...Strings to his Bow". Oil on canvas, signed "W. Dendy Sadler" on edge of wooden bench. Stretcher has partial old tag with partial title. Depicts two pretty ladies chatting with a gentleman. Bright and cheery palette, gold frame, four keyed stretcher. Canvas apprx 24" x 18", overall with frame apprx 29" x 23".
