87. Michael Wolgemut (German, born c.1434-1519)
"The Crucifixion" an original woodcut by Michael Wolgemut and Wilhelm Pleydenwurff for the Franciscan Stephan Fridolin's "Schatzbehalter oder schrein der waren reichtuemer des hails vnnd ewyger seligkeit" in Nuremberg, Germany. This woodcut is dated c.1491. Page measures apprx 11-1/2" H x 7-1/4" W. With mat this piece measures apprx 14" H x 11" W.

88. Bernardo Parentino (Italian 1437-1531)
A page from a collector's album is attributed to Italian artist Bernardo Parentino. Collector's album included various sketches and drawings executed in brown ink with red wash. The album is known as the Moscardo Album, belonging to the the Veronese family. This drawing is dated c. 1482 and entitled "Putti Dancing Around a Vase" or "Grimacing Cherubs". Drawings from the album were exhibited in Munich in 1977. This drawing from the album measures apprx 7-1/2" x 8", on chained lined and water marked with a bow and arrow. A collectors blind stamp located at lower left corner, possibly "HL" or "FL" in a squared stamp. Perimeter of paper has been adhered to wove paper to protect the edges and this has archival tape where it's been tipped onto backing mat board.

89. Israel van Meckenem The Younger (German, active c. 1450-65)
"The Foolish Virgin", copper plate engraving on paper. Collector's stamp on verso. From the Lichtenstein collection. He was trained by his father and probably by Master E.S. Although a minor figure as a creative artist, most of his works were copies. He is important in history as the popularity of engraving became wide spread and he is also the first artist to engrave his own likeness in a double marriage portrait.

90. Martin Schongauer (German 1445-1491)
Engraving of "Christ before Annas", a c. 1477-1520 engraving on chain lined paper with letter "P" and flower water mark, either Cologne of Strasbourg. This is not a lifetime impression. Size apprx 4-1/2" x 6-1/2". He was a German Northern Renaissance Painter and is known as the most important engraver and draughtsman in German art before Dürer. The Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg, Russia has the largest public collection of his works. Reference: Painting of Europe, XIII-XX Centuries, Encyclopedic Dictionary, Moscow, Iskusstvo-1999.

"Martyrdom of A Female Saint", in the manner of Lucas van Leyden (Lucas Hugensz or Jacobsz), possibly Leiden in the Netherlands. Pen and ink on paper, size apprx 10-7/8" x 7-7/8" (275 x 200mm). Vetted by Fritz Koreny. At the left a collector's mark is still unidentified. This item was displayed at the TEFAF,Maastrict, Holland in 2000.

"Lamentation", dated 1565, representing the Virgin Mary mourning over the dead body of Jesus. A copper engraving on chain lined, water marked paper. Artist signed upper right in plate "BARS.BRIX.F..65.". Verso inscribed "Vente Veron" in pencil. Plate size apprx 9-7/8" x 7", paper size apprx 10-1/2" x 7-5/8". Tipped into archival matting. Provenance: purchased at Colnaghi, London, c. 1978.

"King of the Hill". A pencil and sanguine drawing of several small children playing king of the hill. The children all have cherubic faces and flowing curly hair. It is framed in original gold leaf frame under glass with a beveled painted oval shaped wood mat. On verso is the artist's name "G.B. Cipriani R.A. 1727-1785" in pencil. Overall size is apprx 9-1/2" x 11-1/4", image size is 6-1/4" x 8".

106. Francisco Goya y Lucientes (Spanish, 1746-1828)
"Los Caprichos: Que pico de Oro!" Plate 53. No visible watermark, cream colored laid paper. Impression from before the steel facing of the plate, believed to be a fifth edition. The eighty etchings of "Los Caprichos" were the first collection Goya produced for sale as a single set. In 1803, fearful of the Spanish Inquisition, Goya relinquished the plates to Charles IV, in return for a pension for his son. The plates remain with the Calcografia, issued in the ensuing years by that institution. Apprx 8-1/4" x 6-1/2" plate mark, (image apprx 18.8 x 12.4cm). Overall measures apprx 11" x 7-3/4".
