Due to the monochromatic color palette and style these border samples are consistent with the styles of the French designer Xavier Mader and the manufacturer DuFour, dating from apprx 1810. French Floral Wallpaper Borders, C. 1810 Pair of block printed floral wallpaper borders are dated on paper, c. 1850, however may actually date from around 1810, due to the high number of colors used in each border. After 1830 this particular style was no longer in fashion, but returned in the 1850's with fewer colors. These borders were very likely produced by the manufacturer Riottot et Pacon. The first border is forest green with a chintz print of pink and yellow roses. This border measures apprx 5-1/4" H x 26" W. Second border has a velvety design of lilacs and pink roses. The grey monochrome is accented by gilt painted vines and architectural elements. This is a "Fontaine Bleu" design that is consistent with the designs of Victor Poterlet in the 1840's.
