An attractive letter opener inscribed "F. Barbedienne Paris" and "C. Sedid. Inv. 1873" at the base of blade, handle inscribed "D. Attarqe F." (sp). It is bronze with silver and gold detailing. Handle features Venus and Cupid on both sides; she is teasing him whilst under her arm. Her foot rests on the on bow and arrow. The other side depicts Cupid helping Venus with her dress. The blade features a goats head, flowers and pinecone with ribbon and a porpoise. Apprx 12-1/2" long.
