90. Martin Schongauer (German 1445-1491)

Engraving of "Christ before Annas", a c. 1477-1520 engraving on chain lined paper with letter "P" and flower water mark, either Cologne of Strasbourg. This is not a lifetime impression. Size apprx 4-1/2" x 6-1/2". He was a German Northern Renaissance Painter and is known as the most important engraver and draughtsman in German art before Dürer. The Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg, Russia has the largest public collection of his works. Reference: Painting of Europe, XIII-XX Centuries, Encyclopedic Dictionary, Moscow, Iskusstvo-1999.
