535. Hand Painted Limoges Cider Mug

Hand painted porcelain Limoges mug has a flared body with a lovely design of peaches. Signed near handle, "H.K." Verso is marked "T & V, Limoges, France". Also marked on verso "Hand, J.H.S. Co. Painted". Measures apprx 5-1/2" H x 4-1/4" W with gold painted upper rim and handle.

Kaolin, the fine white clay essential to porcelain making, was discovered about 18 miles southwest of Limoges at St. Yrieix in 1765. The first porcelain factory in Limoges was established 6 years later in 1771.
