188. An Important Bronze Garden Torchiere, C. Early 20th Century

Possibly a Caldwell production piece, this Tiffany style garden torchiere sports three roaring lions with crowns and wings surmounting squared and tapering legs, terminating lion paw feet. Laurel swags connect at the wings. Round leaded glass shade with curling waves adorns the bronze lamp. The shade has a twelve panel dome which connect with bolts. Rounded and stepped base with three "shell reliefs. Numbers stamped on bronze, "370 J" and "245 H?". Electrified and in perfect working condition. The piece at one time was a pair, was at the front entrance at the First Church of Science. This rotunda builing still stands after much controversy at the corner of 117th and Lake, on the border of Lakewood and Cleveland. One was stolen, so the church put this one in the basement for 45 years.
