| 17. Valentine Cameron Prinsep, R.A. (British, 1838-1904)
"Sir Francis Grant". Oil on artist's board, initialed lower right. Board apprx 11" x 8-1/2", overall with original gilt frame apprx 16" x 13-1/2". Prinsep was a member of the Royal Academy and was awarded the bronze medal at the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1889. His work is found in many private collections and public institutions such as the National Portrait Gallery; Tate Gallery. He was a painter of genre works, historical subjects and portraits. The sitter for this portrait, Sir Francis Grant (English b. 1810), was a well known portraitist and also a member of the Royal Academy as well as president.
