216. Two Tibetan-Nepalese Figures, ca. 18th-19th Century
Two gilt bronze oriental figures; the first is probably 19th Century and is a standing figure with applied paint to hair, possibly Tara, apprx 8-3/4" H. The second is a seated figure of a Tibetan-Nepalese monk, gilt bronze. Underside of base impressed with a double Varjra. Apprx 4" H.

217. Tibetan-Nepalese Figures, ca. 19th Century
Seated gilt bronze figure with blue paint applied to the hair, a forward cast with a flat back. Apprx 5" H. The second item is a gilt bronze seated monk with three monkeys, two seated and one climbing up the monk's arm. The head was also painted and gilded. Apprx 4" H.

First figure is a seated preaching monk, gilt bronze, apprx 3-1/2" H. The second is a multi-armed and standing bronze deity with three heads with traces of applied paint. Apprx 4-1/4" H. The last is a seated Indian brass Buddhist figure, probably a representative Budda, apprx 16th/17th Century, apprx 5-1/2" H.

224. Brass Dancing Shiva
Large brass sculpture depicts the Hindu goddess, Dancing Shiva. This figure has a hollow base and measures apprx 36" H x 27" W. The dance of Shiva is symbolic of the dynamic forces of creation and destruction, and the harmonious balance of opposites. The small figure under Shiva's feet is the body of the dwarf Purusha (forgetfulness), who is symbolic of man's inertia, the ignorance which must be overcome.

225. A Thai Standing Buddha, ca. 19th Century
Monumental gilt bronze figure depicts a standing Buddha. Stands with hands outstretched, palms facing forward. Tiny mirrored chips of mica are inserted throughout the gilded surface. Figure stands atop a tiered base. Attached to hands are two small rings from which some article may have been hung. Three tired "crown" raised above figure. Measures apprx 39-1/4" H x 7" W.
