Pair of Nippon double handled vases have a hand painted sunset landscape with trees. Gilt tripod bases as well have handles. Both marked on bottom "Hand-Painted Nippon" in green. Vases measure apprx 10-1/4"H x 6-1/2"W.

561. A Menagerie of Seventeen Porcelain Animals, ca. Late 19th Century
Menagerie of Delft porcelain animals includes a giraffe, lion, donkey, goat, horse, rhino, dog, cat, elephant, pig and pair of cows. Each porcelain animal features a hand-painted blue glaze design over shiny white glazed background. All animals are signed on the underside. Sizes range from 5"H x 4"W to 2"H x 4"W. Total number of animals is seventeen.

564. Claude Conover (American, b. 1907)
Teardrop shaped ceramic vase by Cleveland sculptor and ceramic artist Claude Conover is titled "Izapa". This vase has a bulbous form with incised striations in an overall cross-hatch pattern. Signed on verso "Claude Conover, Izapa". Vase measures apprx 14-1/2"H x 8"W. Vase is accented with a muted brown and cream-colored slip glaze. Mr. Conover was the Ohio Arts Council’s recipient of the Cleveland Arts Prize in 1983 as well as being considered an artist of the Cleveland School. A term which was first used by Elrick Davis, in a 1928 article for the Cleveland Press, titled "Cleveland's Art Pioneers Have Put City in Front Rank in Creative Field."

566. Stuart Gray (American, 20th Century)
A hand crafted 4-3/4" tall ginger jar shaped container with a turned walnut lid. The glaze is called powder blue and this type of work is called "Crystalline Porcelain". It is a zinc-silicate crystal in a field of potash, soda or lime glass and fired on a base of high temperature porcelain bisque. This process dates back to the late Ming Dynasty, however it is seldom seen due to the extreme precision required in the glaze formulation and firing cycle. Bottom is signed by the artist and numbered 130.
