Printed for "Illustrations of the nests and eggs of birds of Ohio", an un-bound copy. This is the first offering from a collection purchased directly from the family in 1978, which includes drawings and notes related to the prior publication of this extraordinary achievement. Illustrations of the nests and eggs of birds of Ohio were published in the small town of Circleville, Ohio, over a period of eight years from 1879 to 1886. The lithographic stone of the nest of the Downy Woodpecker currently resides in the Ohio Historical Society, Columbus, Ohio. Of the proposed 100 copies produced, fewer than half have been located in libraries and private hands. This plate was later numbered LVI, as in this upcoming collection, another such plate shows a hand-written note with change to the plate number by Dr. Jones, prior to publication. Paper apprx 17-6/16" x 15-4/16".

Information on verso of this drawing indicates that Grenier died in his freshman year at Northwestern University. This drawing depicts an old man and young child playing cards. Title is located below the drawing. The drawing measures apprx 13-1/4" H x 19" W. With mat and frame, the size of this piece is apprx 20-1/2" H x 26" W.

These miscellaneous engravings include one stipple engraving, in the crayon method, depicting a pair of Greek or Roman figures. Marked on bottom Jacquinot, sculp. This piece measures apprx 16-1/2" H x 11" W. The second piece in this group is a series of engravings from the Opus Elegantissimum by Gerardi de Lairesse. These engravings include one full size image, measuring apprx 13" H x 18-1/2" W. Four smaller images measuring apprx 8" H x 6" W and five small images measuring apprx 5-1/2" H x 4" W.

This grouping of miscellaneous works on paper is comprised of a french engraving of a ship, measuring apprx 3-1/2" H x 7" W, a city scene from Madrid, measuring apprx 6-3/4" H x 10-3/4" W, an engraving of Charles I, measuring apprx 6-1/2" H x 9" W, an engraving of John Speed, c. 1816, measuring apprx 6" H x 4-1/2" W and an engraving by J. Rogers, entitled "Death of Wolfe, c. 1850" measuring apprx 8" H x 11" W. Also included in this grouping is a scene of the Montgomery Waterfall in Quebec, measuring apprx 8" H x 10-3/4" W, an engraving from Canadian Scenery, measuring apprx 11" H x 8" W, another scene, depicting Niagara Falls from Canadian Scenery, measuring apprx 11" H x 8" W, another engraving of Niagara Falls, measuring apprx 9" H x 12-1/2" W and lastly an engraving signed in the lower right corner and dated c. 1820. The format of the composition; without detail in the background, focuses the viewer's attention on the character of the faces and the activity of the pipe lighting providing a charming narrative. The lower portion of the painting is unfinished in appearance, again a compositional device.

A Woodland Stream. Watercolor on paper, signed lower left corner and dated 1908. Matted and framed under glass in a wooden frame with a gold painted lip. Image size 8" x 13-1/2"; with frame 14" x 19-3/4". This forest glade painting shows a great deal of observation and detailed rendering of the scene. Water rushes over rocks in a lively stream with very tall old trees shading the area from the sunlight shown in the distance. A sprout of Queen Anne's Lace is seen among the red leaved bushes to the right of the large tree.
