396. A Carved Gilt Alms Box, French or Italian ca. 15th-16th Century
Originally located inside the entrance of a church, this locking box has an opening at the top for donations to the church. Hand wrought hinges and lock with clasp over the gesso, clay and gold carved box. The front has two facing fern accents. The three other sides have a central flower form within a diagonal ribbon border. Gilt interior. Apprx 8-1/2"T x 7"W x 7"D.

An 18th century Dutch tobacco box, apprx 6" x 1-1/4" x 1-3/4" with hinged lid, unmarked. A heart shaped ivory carved snuff box, inscribed with German text and decorations, hinged lid, apprx 1-3/8" x 1-3/8" x 6/8".

399. Richard Cockle Lucas (British 1800-1883)
A very fine carved profile portrait in wax of a gentleman, c.1840-1860. A large oval, apprx 7-1/2" x 5-1/2", carved in a white toned wax with a dark plum/brown colored background, possibly a painted color on wax. Inscribed at left sign in brown wax, barely visible. In a shadow box frame, overall apprx 14-3/4" x 12-3/4". Unsigned.

400. A Carved Wax Portrait of John Jervis, Earl of St Vincent, ca. late 18th/Early 19th Century
The Admiral (1735-1823) is portrayed in profile, in a shadow box frame of maple. Backed with the original green velvet lining. Wax is adhered to black, reverse painted glass. carving apprx 2-3/4" x 2", overall in frame apprx 7-3/4" x 6-1/2". Commander-in-Chief in the Mediterranean during 1795, he blocked the French fleet at Toulon. He also defeated the Spanish off Cape St Vincent in 1797. As First Lord of the Admiralty, (1801-4), his ruthless reforms reduced corruption in the administration of the navy.

402. Sewing Sampler, Dated 1836
Child's sewing sampler features embroidered flowers and vines. A poem entitled "This World and the Next" is embroidered in the center. The name Sarah Chambers is embroidered near the bottom and dated 1836. Measures apprx 14" H x 12" W. With contemporary wood frame the sampler measures apprx 17-1/4" H x 15-1/2" W.

403. Silk Mourning Embroidery
Silk mourning embroidery is framed under glass. This panel depicts a woman standing beside a grave draped with laurels. At her feet is an urn. Large trees and a house are visible in the background. Panel measures apprx 18-1/2" H x 15" W. With ornately detailed bronzed frame this piece measures apprx 28-1/2" H x 25" W. Twisted gold cords with tassels are attached to verso for hanging.

404. Mason's Apron, Dated 1820
19th Century mason's apron has a central section which has been hand-painted with the crest of the specific lodge. This crest includes an eye and a book. A small note is enclose with the apron stating that this apron was worn by Gordinas A. Hall, esq. in the year 1820. Painting on the apron was done by Pearle. Apprx size of apron within frame is 24" H x 29" W. With fame this piece measures apprx 27" H x 31-1/2" W.

405. A 19th Century Vestment & Chasuble
A work in progress, un-finished and framed, possibly French. Both front and fiddle back are of a cream colored cotton cloth with rich silk embroidery, each apprx 40" x 26". Pillars of flowers run down the centers, the back is embroidered with a crest if the Cross. Little flowers alternate is side margins. Professionally framed in 1982 by Vixseboxse Gallery, overall apprx 48" x 34".
