| 564. Claude Conover (American, b. 1907)
Teardrop shaped ceramic vase by Cleveland sculptor and ceramic artist Claude Conover is titled "Izapa". This vase has a bulbous form with incised striations in an overall cross-hatch pattern. Signed on verso "Claude Conover, Izapa". Vase measures apprx 14-1/2"H x 8"W. Vase is accented with a muted brown and cream-colored slip glaze. Mr. Conover was the Ohio Arts Councils recipient of the Cleveland Arts Prize in 1983 as well as being considered an artist of the Cleveland School. A term which was first used by Elrick Davis, in a 1928 article for the Cleveland Press, titled "Cleveland's Art Pioneers Have Put City in Front Rank in Creative Field." 500/800 Sold $776.25 back to catalog |
