| 735. Paul Maximilien Landowski (French, 1875-1961)
"La Bedouine a la Cruche" (The Bedouin with the Jug). This piece is dated ca. 1925-1930. Made from bronze with a greenish-brown patina the sculpture depicts a haggard individual carrying a jug on her head. The figure is attached to a veined marble base. Apprx size is 15" H x 5" W. Bronze is signed "P. Landowski". Cast at the foundry "L. Gati". Landowski was the 1900 recipient of the Prix de Rome. Much of his work has been heavily influenced by experiences in World War I. After the end of the war Landowski created several international monuments honoring the many dead soldiers. In addition to his monuments Landowski is well known for his wall sculptures. He was a member of the Legion of Honor as well as a professor at the Academy of Beaux-Arts. 800/1,000 Sold $718.75 back to catalog |
