185. Bernard Buffet (French, 1928-1999)

"Abstract Landscape". Lithograph by Bernard Buffet. This lithograph depicts an abstract city landscape in shades of green, blue, black and cream. Signed and dated, '68 in the plate, lower right corner. Image measures apprx 24" H x 18-1/2" W. With mat and frame this piece measures apprx 27" H x 22" W. Buffet was born in Paris in 1928.

In June of the 1948, Buffet was awarded the Critic's Prize at the Galerie Saint-Placide in Paris, in conjunction with Lorjou. In 1955, he was awarded the first prize by the magazine Connaissance des arts, which named the 10 best post-war artists. He met Georges Simenon who became his close friend. His works hang in many prominent museums and institutions around the world.
