Signed and dated, '68 in the plate, lower right corner. Image measures apprx 24" H x 18-1/2" W. With mat and frame this piece measures apprx 27" H x 22" W. Buffet was born in Paris in 1928.
In June of the 1948, Buffet was awarded the Critic's Prize at the Galerie Saint-Placide in Paris, in conjunction with Lorjou. In 1955, he was awarded the first prize by the magazine Connaissance des arts, which named the 10 best post-war artists. He met Georges Simenon who became his close friend. His works hang in many prominent museums and institutions around the world.
