| 232. Faberge Neoclassical Desk Folio by Workmaster Julius Rappoport, St. Petersburg, ca. 1900's
Marked with 84 standard, K.FABERGE in Cyrillic under the Imperial warrant. Gilt neoclassical griffins in each corner, center has gilt eagle with laurel, ferns and flowers. Set into a beveled maroon leather desk folio with four ball feet. Interior has red silk with central paper area with ribbon as a registry. Apprx 15-1/2" x 10-1/2". Julius Rappoport (1851-1917) was one of Fabergés rare craftsmen of Jewish origin, was apprenticed in Berlin, opened a workshop in St. Petersburg from 1883-84 and was under exclusive contract. He is best known for his naturalistic animal figures but also executed special commissions for the Imperial Family and the Imperial Cabinet.
