570. Herend Rothschild Bird Hand-Painted Vase

Herend hand painted basket-weave vase features a scene of birds, insects and butterflies on a with gilt rim and base. This was first created in 1850 for the Rothschild family of Europe to be the epitome of hand painting on porcelain. The design stems from a 19th Century tale about Baroness Rothschild, who lost her pearl necklace in the garden of her Vienna residence. Several days later it was found by her gardener, who saw birds playing with it in a tree. Located on verso is the blue Herend hallmark, style number 6962/RO. This vase measures apprx 9-1/2"H x 6"W.
