| 20. Daniel (Sir) MacNee (British, 1806-1882), Attributed
Portrait of a Beautiful Lass. Oil on canvas, signature not found. Framed in an ornately detailed dark gold leafed frame, probably not the original. Canvas size is 30" x 25", with frame the overall size is apprx. 37" x 32". This charming young woman poses in front of an indistinctly painted dark background. A basket of flowers can be detected to the left of the sitter, and a cluster of English Ivy to the right. The girl wears a distinctively sombre dress and a gold locket on a chain about her neck. The plainness of her garb and the freshness of the rendering of her face intentionally convey a very pretty, youthful and innocent attitude. The lovely face is highlighted by the darkness of the surrounding composition. Purchased in the 1950's Pattin's Auction House, Cleveland, OH. 4,000/6,000 back to catalog |
