| 371. Impressive Carved Sofa, ca. 19th Century
Sofa has dark green upholstery with light green trim at edges and two dark green neck roll pillows. The frame is beautifully carved throughout and has curved arms and top with a central headrest panel with carving across the top. The apron is also carved and is supported by legs ending on claw feet on brass castors. Measures apprx 40"H x 90"L x 24"D. Provenance: Purchased from the Tallman family in the late 19th century, then by the current, third owner. The Tallmans moved to Janeville, WI from New York after making a large fortune in land speculation. They built an extravagant house in Janesville in 1855-57. President Lincoln stayed at the house in 1859. The house sat empty for many years and is now the Linclon-Tallman Museum. 4,000/6,000 Sold $1,725.00 back to catalog |
