670. Ryoun (Japanese, 1809-1886), Attributed

Six panel folding table screen with six original 19th C. painted panels. Six vertical panels in ink and wash on silk in a monochromatic color scheme, each with Japanese calligrphy and red artists chops. Scenes from left to right: (1) Rocks and flowers, (2) Flowering branch with birds, (3) Flowers with moon in upper right, (4) Flowers with flying insect, (5) Bird and flowers, (6) Bird on branch with landscape background. These panels have been restored and remounted on a new screen. Each is mounted on a cream background, bordered with pale green textured silk band, set in new lacquer frame with gilded fold edges. Size: each Ryoun panel is apprx 26-3/4" x 12-1/2". They are mounted on panels: two end panels apprx 40-3/4"H x 17-3/4", four center panels apprx 40-3/4"H x 15". Overall apprx width 95-1/2".
