French silver medal hallmarked on edge "ARGENT" with unidentified hallmark in cartouche. Obverse: Bust of Commodore John Paul Jones in a tie-wig and uniform, facing right. Legend: "JOANNI PAVLO JONES CLASSIS PRAEFECTO. COMITIA AMERICANA." (The American Congress to John Paul Jones, Commander of the Fleet.) Reverse: The action between Bonhomme Richard and Serapis, frigates. Legend: "HOSTIVM NAVIBVS CAPTIS AVT FVGATIS." (The enemy's vessels captured or scattered.) Exergue: "AD ORAM SCOTIAE XXIII . SEPT .
