350. Rookwood Soap Dish, American
Fish-shaped soap dish. The Cincinnati based Rookwood Company was started by Maria Longworth Nichols in 1880 as an amateur pottery club. Their pottery is famous for its range of full, rich colors and textures and superior glazes. This dish is glazed a shiny sea-blue. Bottom bears company stamp, and L 6392. Proceeds from the sale of this item will be donated to the Lyric Opera, Cleveland. Set of identical small pitchers. Porcelain is very delicate, almost paper thin and translucent. Pitchers are moulded in shape of a girl kneeling holding her hands above her head. Glazing is of soft white with yellow applied to girls hair. Braided handle is buttercup yellow luster. Bottoms bear green company insignia. Measures apprx 4-1/2"H x 2-1/4"W.

Proceeds from the sale of this item will be donated to the Lyric Opera, Cleveland. Ceramic floor stand. Unique piece of American pottery by well know Pennsylvania ceramist. Main part is unglazed beige clay of a tubular shape with two melancholy figures incised and glazed. Interior is hollow and top is open. Attached at base is a organic shape that sits low to the floor and is of a neutral color. Purchased at Sylvia Ullman American Crafts Gallery in Cleveland, Ohio about 20 years ago. Measures apprx 41"H x 20"W.

Lot includes three decorative boxes of varying shapes. The first of lot is a porcelain egg shaped box with a transfer decoration of a rose on top and gilding around middle. Lid lifts off. Measures apprx 1-3/4"H x 1-1/2"W x 2-1/2"L. Second is a clover shaped box by Limoges. Features a hinged lid and a hand painted pink scene of a country house with gilt leaves inside. Bottom is marked with Limoges stamp and tiny lid painting is signed. Measures apprx 1"H x 2-1/2"W. Third is a heart shaped lacquer box. Wood is mostly shiny yellow with hand painted floral shapes that are Indian in aesthetic. Lid lifts off and interior is black. Measures apprx 1-1/2"H x 3-1/4"W x 3-1/2"L.
