"Dimostrioni dell Emissario del Lago Albano- Tav. III". Etching on heavy paper taken from a book. Depictions shows an agent examining the physics of an Albanian lake. Scene constructed in three horizontal parts. "Piranesi" appears on lower right corner. State unknown. Plate impression measures apprx 25" x 17". Paper measures apprx 27" x 21-1/2".

Also known as Antoine Demarcenay de Ghuy, lot include three small etchings on paper, signed and dated in the plate, dates are 1707, 1767 and 1773. Single impression is plate number 43 from de l'oeuvre, apprx 1-7/8" x 4-7/8". Plate number 32 and 33 from de l'oeuvre, titles are La Foret and La Cabane, double printed, image apprx 3-7/8" x 4-6/8".

"Los Caprichos: tragata perro" Plate 58. No visible watermark, cream colored wove paper. Impression from before the steel facing of the plate. The eighty etchings of "Los Caprichos" were the first collection Goya produced for sale as a single set. In 1803, fearful of the Spanish Inquisition, Goya relinquished the plates to Charles IV, in return for a pension for his son. The plates remain with the Calcografia, issued in the ensuing years by that institution. Apprx 8-5/8" x 5-7/8" plate mark. Overall measures apprx 11-7/8" x 9-3/8".

Color printed aquatint with hand finishing by and after Thomas Daniell, on wove paper from "Oriental Scenery", this colored aquatint is titled "Dusasumade Gaut, at Bernares, on the Ganges", a view of one of the main bathing steps in Benares, or Varanasi in modern times, on the banks of the Ganges. Bottom right reads: Drawn and Engraved by Thos. Daniell, center Published as the Art directs for Thos. Daniell by Robt. Bowyer at the Historic Gallery Pall Mall May 1796. Plate number XVI, image with text apprx 18-1/4" x 23-3/4". Watermark in paper of "1794". Paper measures overall apprx 21-1/4" x 29-1/4". Daniell was elected an Academician in 1790 and a fellow of the Royal Society.

Lot includes two Audubon lithographs: the male and female Plumed Partridge and the male and female Lewis Woodpecker. The Partridges are No. 59 and plate number 291, the lithograph printed and colored by J.T.Bowen, Phil. The Woodpeckers are No. 55, Pl. 272 and also done by Bowen. Nicely matted in cream color mat. Woodpeckers measures apprx 11-1/4" x 15" and the Partridges apprx, 14-1/2" x 11-3/4".

Verso bears description by artist: "Light House and Fort at the port of Fiamicino, at the mouth of the Fiamicino- or Canal made by [?] as a branch of the Tiber..." Dated March 29th 1829. Measures apprx 9-1/4" X 6". Singed and titled on front, as well. Second of lot is "Suli, Greece" on laid paper with visible watermark. Verso bears a description of this landscape and is dated May 20, 1820. Titled and signed on front. Measures apprx 11-1/4 X 8-1/2".

Couples and families enjoy the public space as they go about their daily activities. Signed on lower left corner "d'apres Sadovnikov Frieddinoff". Sadovnikov was a St. Petersberg artist who painted principally architectural scenes. Painting measures apprx 10-1/2" x 7-1/4". Double matted in deep orange with dusty blue and in simple gold painted frame. Entire item measures apprx 17-1/2" x 15".

"Standing Figures", pencil sketch on creme colored wove paper, edges appear to be trimmed. Unsigned, however attributed in graphite on matting. Paper apprx 8-1/4" x 4-1/4". Provenance: from the ex-collection the late James Crabtree of Grosvenor Square, London. Bonington studied in Paris at the École des Beaux-Arts and in 1820 entered the studio of Gros. At that time he formed a close friendship with Delacroix. Best known for his sparkling watercolors painted rapidly, directly from nature, Bonington also brought to his oil painting an immediacy and dexterity unusual in his day. Represented in the Louvre and in many distinguished British galleries, Bonington's work can also be seen in the Wallace Collection, London.

Elegant pair of colored lithographs by artist Josef Wolf circa 1861-1867. Josef Wolf was a Prussian born artist who illustrated many natural history publications. He exchanged letters with Charles Darwin. Both litogrpahs feature the Ibis bird (also know as "Bird of the Pharos") in their swampy habitat. One depicts the "African Wood Ibis (Tantalus Ibis)", the other, the "Indian Wood-Ibis (Tantalus Leucocephalus)". Names of birds are printed in gold text at bottom of print. Measures apprx 14-3/4" x 12-1/2". Both are matted with linen textured board. On verso of "Indian", the artist's name and an information label. Including mats, items measure apprx 21-3/4" x 19-1/2".

Provenance: ex-collection of the Conn estate, Elkhart, Indiana. Gifted to Mrs. Una Kepler-Rychner, circa 1920's.

"On The Bostonais", ink and wash on watercolor paper, signed lower left. The River was named after Pierre Bostonais, a blonde Iroquois trapper who was nicknamed “Tete Jaune” (Yellowhead). In 1820 he guided one of the first Hudson Bay Company parties through the Yellowhead pass. The route was used regularly by the company to reach the interior of British Columbia. Paper apprx 12-3/8" x 4-7/8". verso has pencil writing with title and blue crayon markings.
