Two pages of Old Russian script with red pigment ornamentation. Both pages are double sided. Loosely translated: the story of Mary loosing Jesus and being comforted by her family members. Each page apprx 8-1/2" x 6-3/4", overall.

Leaf two from a lavishly decorated Persian manuscript, "Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr ibn Sulaiman al-Gazuli". A view from above the walled city of Mecca with turrets on a gold background. Verso has writing in black and red surrounded by a border of handwriting and a small border of gold vine. Pigment, ink and gold on paper, apprx 9" x 5-3/4" (149 x 231 mm). Provenace: ex-collection Ludwig and J. Paul Getty Museum.

"Franciae Accurata Descriptio. Franckreich mit Seinen Grentzen", copper engraved map with original color on laid paper, circa 1600. Title cartouche and heraldic shield on left. Quad was a cartographer from Cologne. He created two works, "Europae tolius orbis terrarum", published in 1592 and "Geographisch Handtbuch", a small folio published in 1600, published by Johann Bussemaker. Verso with German text. Image apprx 7-3/4" x 10-1/2", overall paper apprx 11" x 14-3/4".

"Lotharingia Ducatus; Vulgo Lorraine", copper engraved map with original color on laid paper, circa 1640. Centered on Nancy, it has an elaborate coat of arms and banner cartouche that spans the full width of upper margin. Coat of arms in the bottom right hand corner. German text on verso. impression apprx 15" x 19-5/8", overall paper including margins apprx 19-1/4" x 23-1/4".

"Scania, Blekingia et Hallandia", engraved map with original color, circa 18th century. The highly detailed cartouche at center top is uncolored in order to emphasize the elaborately detailed illustrations for which German maps are especially prized. A second cartouche is at upper right with figure and globe is also uncolored. A detailed larger view within a painted border is at lower right. Impression apprx 19-1/2" x 22-3/4", overall paper apprx 20-5/8" x 24". Seutter was the official imperial geographer of Charles VI.

"Herefordshire" and "The County of Monmouth", two copper engraving on laid paper, without color from William Camden's first edition of Britannia, London, published by Edmund Gibson, circa 1695. The maps are noted for their clear detail and attractive cartouches. Roads, towns, estates, forests, and much other information is crisply presented with fine engraving. Images apprx 13-3/4" x 16-1/2", overall paper apprx 15-1/4" x 17-1/4".
