| 529. Three Navigational Instruments
This lots includes two Stadimeters and one Sexton and their cases. Stadimeters are used in nautical navigation to measure distance and Sextons determine latitude and longitude. The first Stadimeter is cased in a toffee colored wooden box with latch hinges and side handles for carrying. A plaque reads U.S. Navy, BuShips/ Ajax Engineering Co. Chicago. Inside of lid are "Directions for Use". The instrument reads: Mark II. Mod. 0. N6861 1942. Box lined with green felt. Measures apprx 6-1/4"H x 12-1/2"W x 6-1/2"L. The second Stadimeter is from the U.S. Navy Bureau of Ships. Plaque on front of the wooden box reads: Mark 5, N 16000 from 1944, Stamford, Conn. Lid interior has "operating instructions and instrument has model information. Comes with additional lens and screw. Box has brass carrying handle and latch hinges. Box measures apprx 5-1/4"H x 11-1/4"W x 11-1/4"L. Third of lot is a Nautech Sextant from Offshore Yacht Service Inc. from Essex, CT. Red wooden box has sticker that reads "Welcome to the British Virgin Islands" on lid. Inside of lid has a certificate of examination and dates the tool to December 2, 1977. Padded with grey foam. Box hinged with latch and has black carrying handle. Measures apprx 6-1/4"H x 10-1/4"W x 10-1/4"L. 150/350 Sold $189.75 back to catalog |
