538. American Child's Stitching Sampler, circa 1806

Very pretty sampler with tidy stitches made by Jane Gibson, Aged 13, 1806. The text reads: "The rose is red The grass is green. The days is pat which I have seen. My working hand my Friends my have. When I am ded and in my grave". Top portion features the alphabet, maker's name and numbers. Bottom portion shows trees and flowers. Fabric measures apprx 7-3/4"W x 17-1/2"L. On verso an easel stand, a sticker from Boots Picture Framing and text of poem. With simple wood frame, entire item measures apprx 8-1/2"L x 18-1/4"W.
