573. Society Bi-Cornered Hat with Sword, made after 1931

A regal pairing of military grab. The style of hat would have belonged to a a Colonial Naval Officer circa 1850. It is made from black velvet with a fancy button and ribbon design on front. Crest is lined with curly black ostridge feathers. Inside has leather brim-band and satin lining. It is a size seven and was made for John Nicholas Heltzel by The Lilley Ames Co. in Columbus. It measures apprx 15". The hat comes in a brown leather hat box with bears the name of its owner as well as a leather fastening strap and carrying handle. The sword has a black and gold sheath with the design of an oak leaf. The handle is gold and ivory embellished with a gold tassel. Made by the Lilley Ames Co. Measures apprx 33" long.
