| 532. Biedermeier Knife Box, German, circa Early 19th Century
Rectangular mahogany box with sloping top and curved front. Has dark inlay banding and key hole escutcheon on the exterior. Secondary wood on interior is slotted for forty-five utensils and inlaid starburst with satinwood, on inside of lid. These sorts of boxes were used to keep silver safe when not being used, and are now popular decorative accessories for a traditional dining room. Measures apprx 11-1/2" x 9" by 14-1/2".
