| 609. Chinese Silk Tapestry, circa Late 18th/early 19th Century
Beautiful hand-stitched silk piece of a playful scene of court life with figures and animals. Elements of the landscape such as the orange sun and tea leaves are embroidered as well as the architectural aspects of a pagoda. On bottom are embroidered images of playing children. Stitching is tiny, delicate and precise, including the "forbidden" stitch. Peach silk background is intricately bordered by bands of beautiful ribbons and fringed with delicate knot work in multi colors. Backed with powder blue silk.
