211. An Impressive Sterling Service, Edinburgh, circa 1849-1850

Ornate set includes coffee pot, tea pot, creamer and sugar bowl. Design is a lavish motif of scrolling lines, leaves and full blossoms. Rims and feet are wavy. Tea pot (measures 8-1/2" x 10-1/2", weighs apprx 25.9 troy ounces) , creamer (measures apprx 7" x 5", weighs 8.4 troy oz. ) and sugar bowl (measures apprx 5-1/4" x 9", weighs apprx 13.9 troy oz.) are all hallmarked. Set is from Edinburgh, 1849-1850, (queen's head profile-left, thistle cartouche, town mark castle cartouche, date mark and makers mark in square cartouche-WCS). One side features monogram the other an arm holding a sword with the inscription "Certavi et Vici (I have fought and conquered). Coffee pot measures apprx 11-1/2" x 10-1/2", weighs apprx 32.7 troy oz, hallmark not found. Creamer and sugar are gold-washed on interior and pots have bone or ivory insulators. Also included is a fancy pot and water heater from London, 1905-1906, silver masters mark in square cartouche JP above ?P. Measures apprx 12" x 10-1/2" and weighs apprx 64.4 troy oz. The large tray is made by Sheffield and is silver over copper. Coat of arms at center reads Guarde le Foy. Measures apprx 30" x 19-1/2".
