735. Hugo Brehme (German/Mexican, 1882-1954)

A lot of two photographs. The first image, circa 1920-1939 is printed on textured paper and adhered to backing paper which is inscribed "Guadalupe, Tepeyac (Mexico)", at left and signed at right. The second is a silver gelatin print, adhered to backing paper, also inscribed "La Catedral" and signed at the right. Each apprx 12-1/4"T x 8-3/4"W, overall. Also known as Hugo Brehme Wick, he immigrated to Mexico around 1903 and worked there for the remainder of his life. Best known as a photographer of Mexican landscapes, especially of the volcanoes outside the Valley of Mexico, Brehme also photographed people and places throughout the country. He made a few notable photographs during the Revolution, including the famous photograph of Emiliano Zapata distributed by the Casasola Agency.
