| 22. Italian, circa mid/late 19th Century
Annunciation Angel. Oil on hard surface artist's board, oval, signed lower right in red (? A. Parsini). Framed in a newer frame with gold painted oval opening mat. Gabriel carries white lilies, an iconographic representation of the purity of the Virgin Mary. His gestures indicate the bestowing of a blessing. The Angel Gabriel is depicted in his traditional garb with feathered wing and and angelic golden curls. He bears a contemplative expression on his face. His hands and cheeks are elegantly and delicately painted. Due to the small size and presence of a signature this piece was probably a private commission as a domestic devotional object. Oval painting measures apprx 8-1/2" X 7". 500/700 Sold $603.75 back to catalog |
