From the book "Memorie istorio-geografiche della Morea riacquistata dall'armi venete del regno di Negroponte e degli altri luoghi circonvicini, e di quelli c'hanno sottomesso nella Dalmacia, e nell'Epiro. Dal principio della guerra... al Turco nel 1684 sin'all'anno presente 1687. - Venezia, Ruinetti, 1687". Plate is titled "Forteza Di Cin Presso Dall Armi Dell'ser:Repv: Venetz. Adi 28 Setenbre 1686 in Dalmacia". Copper plate engraving on laid paper with a three crescent moon watermark. Image commemorates the Republic of Venice's historical military victory over a Dalmatian fortress, Sign. The Venetian troops are identified by their banner bearing the city's symbol and patron saint: Mark the Evangelist depicted as a lion. Impression apprx 10-1/8" x 13-1/2". Overall paper measures apprx 12-7/8" x 15-3/4". The last of the three folio editions of this popular work first published in 1686, in which Coronelli reports the events of the war waged at that time by the Venetian republic against the Turks have become rare, particularly those in folio. 500/700 Sold $316.25 back to catalog |
