126. Francisco Goya y Lucientes (Spanish, 1746-1828)

"Los Caprichos: Correccion" Plate 46. No visible watermark, cream colored wove paper. Impression from before the steel facing of the plate. The eighty etchings of "Los Caprichos" were the first collection Goya produced for sale as a single set. In 1803, fearful of the Spanish Inquisition, Goya relinquished the plates to Charles IV, in return for a pension for his son. The plates remain with the Calcografia, issued in the ensuing years by that institution. Apprx 8-5/8" x 5-7/8" plate mark. Overall measures apprx 11-7/8" x 9-3/8".
