456. An 18th Century Mahogany Secretary

A period American secretary has a slant front opening to reveal an olive green baize writing tablet. Above the writing area is a central section flanked by two narrow drawers, meant for holding letters. The central section, complete with a small brass key, opens to reveal a hidden drawer on top, a large pigeon hole and a small drawer with a brass pull on the bottom. On either side of the letter drawers are 3 small pigeon holes with carved aprons on the top over one long narrow drawer and two smaller drawers, all with brass pulls. Interior of drawers have ink stains on secondary poplar wood. Carved apron at bottom with carved ball and talon feet. Lower drawers do not have locking mechanisms. Apprx 44"H x 49"W x 23-1/2"D.
