482. Monumental Carving of Buddha, Chinese
Seated figure carved of Jade. Smiling Buddha carries a Nenju or set of prayer beads in his right hand, and in his left hand a fruit, perhaps as a symbol of longevity; his belly is fat to indicate prosperity. Massive figure sits on a square wooden base. He measures (including base) apprx 20"H x 13"L x 20"W.

483. Pair of Massive Jade Foo Dogs, Chinese, early 19th Century
Matching statues carved of Jade, with stands. One Foo Dog is shown with paw on a sphere; the other has a paw on a Foo baby. These figures stand guard over the entrance to Buddhist temples and tombs; thus discouraging evil spirits and wrong doers from entering, and maintaining peace and tranquility within the sanctuary. The fearsome pair sit with heads tilted inward. Each creatures sits on a Jadeite base as well as a rectangular wooden stand. Measure, with stands, apprx 22-1/4"H x 14"W x 10-1/4"L.

485. Ceramic Bowl, Chinese, late 19th/early 20th Century
Large porcelain bowl with over glaze enamels in the Famille verte palette. Interior has glazed decorations of fruit, peaches (symbolizing marriage and longevity) and pomegranates (a symbol of fertility). Bottom shows an old man riding a crane (also a longevity symbol) while precious objects and lotus blossoms are painted around the rim. Exterior depicts an energetic battle scene in greens and oranges. Bottom bears 6 character over glaze red stamp of Kang Hsi. Measures apprx 5-1/4"H x 13"D.

Pair of blue and white plates. Porcelain plates appear to depict same courtly scene but executed by different hands. Scene shows two figures conversing near a fence and under a tree while another figure cooks inside a pagoda with a child playing on the floor. Underside has simple design of two branches. Each measures apprx 8-3/4"D.

488. Japanese Kutani Porcelain Figure of Hotei, late 19th/early 20th Century
Blue and white porcelain figure. Hotei is one of the Seven Lucky Gods of Japan, God of Contentment and Happiness, he is identified through his round belly and laughing expression. His robe and fan are glazed with swirling under-glazed cobalt designs. Bottom marked with 9 Vallies stamp. Measurs apprx 6-1/2"H x 6-1/2"W.
